Control room at Fire Wave Sound

If you've never recorded in a studio before, it's normal to feel unsure about how the day will go.

Here's what typically happens during a session at Fire Wave Sound.

Before You Arrive

Preparation makes the biggest difference.

Before your session, we'll confirm:

  • Song structure
  • Tempo (if using a click)
  • Number of musicians
  • What we're tracking first
  • Rough timeline for the day

The more rehearsed you are, the more time we can spend capturing performances instead of figuring things out.

Setup and Sound Check

When you arrive, we start with setup.

That includes:

  • Placing mics
  • Dialing in tones
  • Setting headphone mixes
  • Running scratch takes to check levels

This part isn't rushed. Getting things right early saves time later.

Tracking

Once levels feel good and everyone's comfortable, we move into real takes.

Depending on the project, we may:

  • Track the full band together first
  • Capture drums as a foundation
  • Layer instruments one by one
  • Build from a scratch performance

We'll review takes as we go and keep what feels right.

The goal isn't perfection — it's strong, confident performances.

Breaks and Adjustments

Sessions are focused, but they're not chaotic.

We pause when needed, adjust tones if something isn't sitting right, and keep the momentum steady. If something feels off, we address it while everything is still set up.

After Tracking

Once tracking is complete, we move into editing, mixing, and mastering.

You'll receive rough mixes to review, and we'll make revisions as needed to lock in the final sound before delivery.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Session

  • Rehearse beforehand
  • Bring spare strings, sticks, cables
  • Know your parts
  • Don't overthink it

The studio is there to capture what you already know how to do.
